Chronicle of Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, born in Barranquilla, Colombia, showed her talent from a very young age. At 13, she signed her first record deal with Sony Music Colombia. However, her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993), were not as successful as expected. It was her third album, Pies Descalzos (1995), that marked a turning point. With singles like "Estoy Aquí" and "¿Dónde Estás Corazón?", Shakira established herself as one of the most promising artists in Spanish-language pop-rock music, achieving multimillion-dollar sales throughout Latin America.

Her success was reaffirmed with ¿Dónde Estás los Ladrones? (1998), songs like "Ciega, Sordomuda", "Ojos Así" and "Inevitable" took her to a new level of stardom and opened the doors to the American market. A crucial milestone during this period was her participation in MTV Unplugged in 1999, where she won a Grammy Award. With massive hits like "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Clothes", Shakira became a global superstar. Her blend of pop-rock, Latin music, and her iconic belly dancing set her apart from her contemporaries. The album sold more than 13 million copies worldwide and cemented her as an international music icon.

Shakira became synonymous with major sporting events. Her song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" was the official anthem of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, achieving massive success that led her to become the only artist to participate in three consecutive World Cups (Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014).

In 2020, her career reached a new peak when she starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. Her performance, a burst of energy and a tribute to Latin culture, was acclaimed worldwide and became one of the most-watched shows in history.

In recent years, Shakira has continued to reinvent herself and set trends. Her collaborations with new generation artists, such as Rauw Alejandro ("Te Felicito"), Karol G ("TQG"), and Bizarrap ("Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53"), have

demonstrated her ability to stay relevant and connect with younger audiences. Her recent releases have explored heartbreak and female empowerment, cementing her not only as a musical figure but also as an icon of resilience and self-affirmation. Her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (2024) is the most recent testament to her power and influence.

Beyond music, Shakira has been a tireless social activist. Her Pies Descalzos Foundation, founded in 1997, has been dedicated to providing education to thousands of vulnerable children in Colombia, a commitment she has maintained throughout her career and which reinforces her status as an iconic humanitarian.
